How to protect availability of your servers

Everyone wants to have 24/7 availability, whether or not your servers are accessed. Experience of 2020 shows that cybercriminals are resorting to extortion. Let us look at the types of cyberattacks that affect availability. Remember, availability is not always about cybersecurity. It could well be your own weak infrastructure or monitoring.

Special note - I have also seen the academic research on SF-DRDOS aka "Storage Flood - Distributed Reflection Denial of Service Attack" which claims to have a 2400 amplification factor and reach 670 Gbps - 10 Tbps bandwidth. If you combine my suggestions for DDOS and DRDOS and blacklist all torrent client apps, it may be possible to mitigate SF-DRDOS. But I am not a specialist of peer-to-peer networking and further cybersecurity research would be required on this topic.
